My friend is actually there! She’s been in the Peace Corps in Azerbaijan for the last few years. Apparently she got some kind of sneak peek a couple days ago? I don’t know, I’m still a little unclear about this whole thing, haha.
Oh no way?!?!? Infinite jealousy. It’s pretty much an institution over here and in Europe. It’s so ridiculous but it’s just so much fun to watch. Better with friends and drinking games though!

Thank you for your detailed response and insight, I’m quite surprised about the Dropbox thing.. unless each person has their own restricted folder or something. The soundcloud seems like the best (and also free) way to do it.
Dropbox wise….The promo will go to the editor who will then share it with the chosen writer in their own private account. You never see anything else and you’re trusted to keep it to yourself.

New BSON, nice! But let me ask you.. how do labels get these to you whilst protecting against leaks? Voice-overs, streams, uniquely edited versions?
There’s a few ways. They’ll send a watermarked/personalised link to you at the request of an editor (this generally happens if it’s something I’m doing for Metal Hammer).
An editor will already have the file from the label/PR company and will send you a link to this - a lot of stuff comes via a shared Dropbox account.
A lot of PR companies use a system called Haulix. You are given access to the record you’re reviewing/you’ve requested and you get two chances to stream each track and one chance at downloading it.
One label I have been dealing with in recent times uses Soundcloud to share their music and the link is disclosed to you when requested/if they’ve sent the editor the link.
It’s always the full record and generally the PR spiel is included in the download for your coverage purposes.
After this, you are trusted to not share anything you receive in good faith from a label. I have never done this because I am far too aware of the chances and opportunities I have in hearing things a little earlier than others and would never throw that in the face of the editors that trust me. It takes a long time to build relationships with labels and I would never compromise that.
